Arizona Certified Public Accountant: CE & renewal requirements
80 CE contact hours every 2 years
Biennial, tied to your birth-year parity (renew in your birth month).
Source: Arizona State Board of Accountancy · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.
Required topics
- 4 hrs ethics, including at least 1 hr AICPA conduct AND at least 1 hr Arizona statutes/rules
- At least 16 hrs classroom/live
- At least 40 hrs in accounting/auditing/tax/business law/consulting (16 in A&A&T)
First renewal & exemptions
Limited hardship waivers; newly certified CPAs are prorated.
If your license lapses
Unmet CPE expires the license; reinstatement is a separate process — you can't use the CPA title while expired.
How CE is tracked
Self-report at biennial renewal via the AZ Board portal; keep documentation.
Watch out: The 4 ethics hours are split-mandated (at least 1 AICPA conduct AND at least 1 Arizona statutes), and ethics taught by your own employer or coworker doesn't qualify.
