Required topics

First renewal & exemptions

Only permanently licensed vets must do CE; first-renewal and temporary licensees are exempt. Military and health/disability waivers are available.

If your license lapses

It is illegal to practice in California on an inactive or expired license; you must complete the 36 hours to renew active.

How CE is tracked

Self-certify on the renewal form; keep proof at least 4 years for random audit.

Watch out: The antimicrobial hour is only every 4 years and staggered by renewal year, so vets often miss whether the current cycle needs it; a course must be at least 50 minutes to count.
