Georgia Registered Nurse: CE & renewal requirements

30 CE contact hours every 2 years

Biennial — license expires January 31; your renewal year (odd vs. even) follows your original issue year.

Source: Georgia Board of Nursing (Secretary of State) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.

Required topics

First renewal & exemptions

Competency can be met five ways: 30 CE hours; OR national certification; OR an accredited academic program; OR employer-verified competency with 500+ practice hours; OR a Board-approved reentry program. New licensees with a short first period defer to their second renewal.

If your license lapses

The license lapses if not renewed by Jan 31; practicing on it is unauthorized. Late renewal carries a fee; longer lapses require reinstatement with possible competency evidence.

How CE is tracked

Georgia tracks CE through CE Broker and reviews it AT renewal — an empty CE Broker account can block renewal even if you 'did the hours.'

Watch out: Reconcile your CE Broker transcript before Jan 31 — Georgia checks it at renewal, not just on audit.
