Illinois Licensed Clinical Social Worker: CE & renewal requirements
30 CE contact hours every 2 years
Biennial — licenses expire November 30 of odd-numbered years.

- 3 hrs Ethics
- 3 hrs Cultural Competence
- 1 hr Sexual Harassment Prevention
- 1 hr Implicit Bias
- 1 hr Alzheimer's/dementia (once every 3 renewal periods)
- 6 hrs Clinical Supervision Training — LCSWs, second renewal only
First renewal & exemptions
No CE for your first renewal; waivers available for military service or a documented incapacitating illness.
If your license lapses
You certify completion at renewal; inability to show proof on audit can lead to discipline or a non-renewed status.
How CE is tracked
Self-attest at IDFPR online renewal; keep records — proof is required only on audit.
Watch out: Out-of-state CE credit applies only to IN-PERSON courses, and the Alzheimer's hour is only every third cycle (easy to misread as every cycle).
