Biennial — licenses expire March 31 of even-numbered years.
Source: Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.
Required topics
- 1 hr Pharmacy law/ethics
- 1 hr Patient safety
- 1 hr Sexual harassment prevention
- 1 hr Implicit bias
- 1 hr Cultural competency every 6 years (renewals on/after Jan 2025)
First renewal & exemptions
No CE required for the first renewal cycle after initial licensure.
If your license lapses
The license lapses if not renewed; restoration may require CE makeup plus fees.
How CE is tracked
Use ACPE-accredited providers; the state-specific topics often don't report to CPE Monitor, so keep certificates and self-report (audit-based).
Watch out: The sexual-harassment, implicit-bias and cultural-competency mandates come from separate statutes layered on top of the pharmacy CE rule — easy to miss because they're not in the pharmacy CE section.
