Maryland Real Estate Salesperson: CE & renewal requirements

15 CE contact hours every 2 years

Biennial (per-license expiration date). Complete CE at least 30 days before renewal to avoid a reinstatement fee.

Source: Maryland Real Estate Commission (MREC) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.

Required topics

First renewal & exemptions

First renewal (licensed on/after Oct 1, 2023) is 15 hours but a different topic mix; there's no blanket new-licensee waiver.

If your license lapses

Reinstatable within 3 years with back CE + a $168 reinstatement fee + past-due renewal fees; beyond 3 years you must re-license.

How CE is tracked

Providers upload your hours into the MREC system (up to 14 days post-course); renew via Maryland OneStop.

Watch out: Finishing CE close to renewal can still trigger a reinstatement fee, because provider upload lag (up to 14 days) can push credits past the 30-days-before cutoff.
