New Jersey Real Estate Salesperson: CE & renewal requirements
12 CE contact hours every 2 years
Biennial, fixed statewide cycle — CE due April 30 and renewal due June 30 of odd-numbered years (not birthday-based).
Source: New Jersey Real Estate Commission (NJREC) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.
Required topics
- At least 6 'core' hours, including 2 hrs Ethics, 1 hr Fair Housing & NJ Law Against Discrimination, and 1 hr Agency
First renewal & exemptions
New licensees licensed during the second year of the term are exempt from CE that first cycle.
If your license lapses
CE completed after April 30 (but before renewal) incurs a $200 late fee; an expired license requires reinstatement.
How CE is tracked
Course providers report hours directly to the state's CE database (PSI); keep your certificates.
Watch out: Two separate deadlines: CE by April 30 but renewal stays open to June 30 with a $200 late fee. The first-cycle exemption depends on whether you were licensed in year 1 or year 2 of the term.
