New York Real Estate Salesperson: CE & renewal requirements

22.5 CE contact hours every 2 years

Required topics

First renewal & exemptions

Attorneys admitted to the NY Bar are exempt from all CE. In the first 2-year term the agency requirement is 2 hours (vs. 1 thereafter). The old 15-year-veteran exemption was eliminated in 2021.

If your license lapses

No grace period — you can't legally practice (or earn commission) while expired. The renewal link stays open up to 2 years; expired over 2 years means retaking the state exam.

How CE is tracked

Providers upload completions; you renew via eAccessNY and attest. Keep certificates.

Watch out: NY's mandated mix is unusually granular — the 2-hr cultural competency + 2-hr implicit bias combo is NY-specific and often missed, and there's no 'inactive' status to fall back on if you expire.
