Texas Dental Hygienist: CE & renewal requirements
24 CE contact hours every 2 years
Biennial (after the initial renewal).
Source: Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.
Required topics
- An HHSC-approved Human Trafficking Prevention course (within the 24)
- CPR/BLS hands-on (does NOT count toward the 24)
- Jurisprudence assessment every 4 years (separate)
First renewal & exemptions
No CE for the first renewal after initial licensure.
If your license lapses
Non-compliance makes you ineligible to renew until the hours are obtained.
How CE is tracked
Sign an attestation at renewal; about 5% are audited monthly — keep records.
Watch out: OSHA, CPR and practice-finance courses don't count toward the 24; self-study is capped at 8 hours; the jurisprudence assessment is separate and every 4 years (easy to forget).
