Texas Pharmacist: CE & renewal requirements
30 CE contact hours every 2 years
Biennial, on the last day of your birth month.
Source: Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.
Required topics
- 1 hr Texas-specific pharmacy law — every renewal (federal/other-state law doesn't count)
- 2 hrs Controlled Substances — NEW licensees only, within the first year
- An HHSC-approved Human Trafficking Prevention course
First renewal & exemptions
First renewal is exempt from most CE except the mandatory topics.
If your license lapses
Late renewal incurs penalty fees; expired over a year may require additional steps.
How CE is tracked
Self-report hours on the renewal application; keep certificates 3 years.
Watch out: The 2-hr controlled-substance CE is a ONE-TIME new-licensee requirement (first year), not every cycle — and the Texas law hour can't be met with federal or other-state law CE.
