Washington Real Estate Broker: CE & renewal requirements

30 CE contact hours every 2 years

Biennial; your renewal date is set by your original license date. Washington's entry license is 'Broker' (not 'salesperson').

Source: Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) · confirmed 2026-06. Requirements change — always verify with the board.

Required topics

First renewal & exemptions

Your FIRST renewal is heavier, not lighter: 90 hours, including a 30-hr Advanced Practices course + a 30-hr Real Estate Law course + the one-time 6-hr Fair Housing course.

If your license lapses

Expired licenses are reinstatable within 2 years with fees plus 60 clock hours of coursework; you can't practice while expired.

How CE is tracked

Self-certify online at renewal; DOL audits against approved-course records.

Watch out: The first renewal requires 90 hours (two separate 30-hour courses), not 30 — the single biggest trap in Washington.
